Carbondale, Ill. -- For the second straight match, the Southern Illinois men's tennis team went undefeated, sweeping an opponent. This time, SIU blanked Western Illinois, 7-0, on Saturday at Sports Blast.
Four Salukis won in straight sets in singles, making a total of only four sets SIU has lost in their last two matches. Senior Falk De Beenhouwer (2-6, 6-1, 6-1) and freshman Jorge Cavero (3-6, 6-2, 6-0) each lost their first set, then came from behind to win the match.

Other Salukis in singles play were sophomores Brandon Florez, who beat Western Illinois' Mandela Shepard 6-1, 6-4; and Jordan Snyder, who bested WIU's Ben Yue 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, the pair of De Beenhouwer and sophomore Orhan Spahic improved to 3-0 on the season by topping the Leatherneck pair of Jim Capalbo and Yue 8-4. Overall, Southern Illinois is 7-2 in doubles for the spring season.
"We were supposed to win today, and we took care of business," said head coach Dann Nelson. "I thought we played really well in doubles. We started off slow in a couple matches in singles, but the guys played well and they deserve a lot of credit. This is a big weekend and we have a big one tomorrow."
SIU men's tennis improved to 3-1 on the season and resumes its homestand tomorrow against Northern Illinois with play beginning at 9 a.m.
