Football adds two to signing class

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois head football coach Dale Lennon announced Tuesday that he has added two student-athletes to his 2011 recruiting class.
Defensive back Ronald Baines of Voorhees, N.J. has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Salukis and offensive lineman Cory Campanella, out of DuQuoin, Ill., will be added as a priority walk-on.
The two additions bring Lennon's 2011 recruiting class to a total of 24 student-athletes, 20 of which signed NLI's.

2010: Garnered first team All-Courier Post accolades as a senior...Recorded 55 tackles and 10 tackles for a loss...Had one interception and blocked one field goal...Also played running back and he rushed for eight touchdowns...2009: Had six interceptions, seven pass breakups and forced three fumbles as a junior...Posted 45 tackles and five tackles for a loss.
Coaches Comments: "Ronald is a big, physical corner that has the ability to cover man-to-man. He is also a very sound tackler and possesses all the skills needed to excel as a defensive back."

2010: Was selected to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association All-State Academic team...Named to Southern Illinois Coaches Association All-South team...All-Conference selection...Received the teams Best Block Award...Helped lead high school team to a 9-3 record and into the quarterfinals of the playoffs...2009: Was selected to the Southern Illinois River-to-River All-Conference team...Led DuQuoin High School to a 9-2 overall record and second round of the playoffs...2008: Helped team to a 12-2 record and a runner-up finish at state... Other: Also played baseball, where his team was the regional champions during his sophomore year...National Honor Society vice president.
Coaches Comments: "Cory is another two-sport athlete and we like the athleticism that he possesses. He comes from a successful high school program in DuQuoin and we feel his abilities match what we want from our offensive linemen."
