Lambert nabs MVC Athlete of the Week honors

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois thrower J.C. Lambert has been named State Farm Missouri Valley Conference men's field athlete of the week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Lambert punched his ticket to the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday night at the SIU Invitational, winning the men's weight throw with a mark of 70-09.75. In the process, the Harrisburg, Ill., native broke the school record in the event - which was previously held by Mark Milleville - by five inches. Lambert topped national top 50 throwers Ben Bishop of SIU-Edwardsville, Knut Syversen of Memphis, and Arthur Thomas of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

In the USTFCCCA computer rankings, the men's team moved up nine spots to No. 41 in the nation. Meanwhile, the women's team dropped one spot to No. 11.

The Salukis will next be in action this Friday and Saturday, as they head to Michigan for the GVSU Big Meet.
