COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 13/17 Missouri Tigers proved too much for the Southern Illinois softball team as it dropped 3-0 decision Wednesday afternoon.
The Salukis (13-9) came out with two hits in the first inning, totaling three overall, but were unable to put any runs across in the board in the effort as they were shutout for just the second time this season.
"I would have liked to see more kids making adjustments and I thought four kids, Mallory Duran, Haley Gorman, Taylor Orsburn, and Morgan Barchan, were seeing the ball and making good contact, I just wish others could have made them too," Head coach Kerri Blaylock said.
Mallory Duran continued her strong offensive performance with a single and Haley Gorman added two hits for the Salukis, as the Tigers' (17-3) pitching staff lifted them to their 14th straight victory on the season.
Blaylock credits Duran's all around consistency with her current success at the plate, as the junior now leads the team in batting average with a .358.
"She's consistent in everything; in her personality, in her life, and with everything she does and it shows on the softball field," Blaylock said.
Danielle Glosson (8-5) pitched a complete game, her 11th of the season, in the loss, and Blaylock said holding a strong offensive team like Mizzou kept the game within reach for the Dawgs.
"I thought we did a pretty decent job handling their offense, when you hold them to three runs or less I think you've got a shot," Blaylock said.
The Salukis are back in action as they open play in the Missouri Valley Conference as they host the Wichita State Shockers at Charlotte West Stadium on Saturday with first pitch at noon.
