Cassie Rushing leads Salukis at day one of NIU Snowbird

TAMPA, Fla. - After round one, the Southern Illinois women's golf team sits in fourth place at the NIU Snowbird.
Cassie Rushing led the team with an impressive first round score of 72, which was even for the course, and putting her in second place behind leader Jordan Hatch of Saint Leo University by just one stroke.
"Obviously we are very proud of Cassie, she is one of your bright stars right now," Head coach Diane Daugherty said. "We are till looking for everyone else to start playing to their ability."
As a team the Salukis shot a 315, which was fourth out of 11 teams, backed by top 20 finishes by Shaina Rennegarbe (T16, 79) and Margaret Gilley (T20, 80).
Ashleigh Rushing (T40, 84) and Alisha Matthews (T47, 86) rounded out the top five finisher for the Salukis at the Pebble Creek Golf Course.
The Salukis will play another round of 18 holes tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
