MURRAY, Ky. - Murray State took advantage of four walks and two Saluki errors to hand the Southern Illinois baseball team a 5-2 loss in a four and a half inning game Tuesday here at Reagan Field.

Heavy rain was coming down the entire ball game, but it was officially called in the bottom of the fifth due to darkness.

The Salukis fall to 6-17 on the year and just 2-12 in road games. The Thoroughbreds improve to 10-13 with just their second win in their last eight games.

Murray State, aided by three walks and a Saluki error, jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings.

Southern got runs in the second and fifth off of RBIs from Jake Welch and Brock Harding. SIU stranded runners on second and third base in the both the second and fourth innings.

The `Breds scored one run in the fourth and the game was called in the fifth when the umpires ruled that it was too dark to continue.

Harding was able to extend his hitting streak to eight games, as he was 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored. Sophomore Austin Montgomery, in his first game back in nearly a month, was 1-for-3 as the designated hitter.

Saluki senior pitcher Andrew Bever fell to 1-2 on the year, as he drew the loss Tuesday. Bever went 2.1 innings and gave up four hits, four runs (three earned) and four walks.

Murray State starter Bryan Babin registered his second win (2-1), throwing all five innings. SIU got five hits off of Babin, but he only allowed two runs (one earned) and had three walks with two strikeouts.

The Salukis and Thoroughbreds are scheduled to meet again in Carbondale at Abe Martin Field on April 6.
