ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois thrower Jeneva McCall has been named State Farm Missouri Valley Conference women's field athlete of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.
This is McCall's fifth athlete of the week honor in 2010-11 and her second consecutive week winning in the outdoor campaign.
McCall made it two straight weeks of sweeping the women's throw event titles, as she did so this time at the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday. The junior began the meet with a commanding win in the hammer throw with a mark of 215-08. She was not alone, though, as she was one of six Salukis in the top seven, including the top four spots. Next, McCall topped Mississippi's Betty Williams and Arkansas State's Julia Agawu to take the discus at a distance of 176-03. The Dolton, Ill., native took her third title of the day in the shot put with a toss of 53-07.00.
The women's team moved up for the second straight week in the USTFCCCA computer rankings, as they rose one spot to No. 22. Meanwhile, the men's team fell to 82 nationally.
SIU will next compete this Friday and Saturday when they return to Dixie for the War Eagle Invitational.
