→ The Southern Illinois baseball team hosts Murray State on Wednesday, April 6 at Abe Martin Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. This is the second meeting between the Salukis and Thoroughbreds in the last eight days, as the `Breds topped SIU, 5-2, in five innings on March 29.
Fans can listen to the game on the Saluki Sports Network with Mike Reis and Gene Green at WFRX 1300-AM in Carbondale and on the net at SIUSalukis.com through Game Central. Video streaming of Wednesday's game is also available through Game Central.
→ SIU leads the all-time series with the Thoroughbreds, 41-14, and has taken five out of the last seven games. The Salukis have won 10-straight over the `Breds at Abe Martin Field, dating back to 1999.
→ Second baseman Brock Harding's 11-game hitting streak is the longest active streak in the MVC. It is the longest of his career and the longest by a Saluki this year. Harding is hitting .375 (18-for-48) in the last 11 games with seven runs scored and six driven in.
→ In the March 29 meeting in Murray, Ky., SIU had five hits in the five innings. Two of those hits came off of the bat of Brock Harding, who scored one of Southern's two runs and drove in the other. Murray State scored five runs off of their six hits, but were assisted by a pair of Saluki errors and four walks. Senior pitcher Andrew Bever, who is scheduled to start Wednesday's game, drew the loss against Murray State last week. He allowed four runs (three earned) off of four hits and four walks in 2.1 innings.
→ Sophomore Austin Montgomery returned from a 14-game absence due to illness and played in all four Saluki games last week. He came off the long layoff looking like he was in mid-season form, as he batted .563 in four games with a team-high nine hits. He scored two runs, had a double and drew two walks while serving as SIU's designated hitter. Montgomery could move his way back into the infield, where he started the first eight games of the season at first base before being sidelined for nearly a month. His return led to Southern tallying 39 hits and 20 runs in three games last weekend.
