Volleyball picked eighth in MVC preseason poll

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois volleyball team has been selected eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll.
The Salukis received 30 points in the poll as voted by the MVC coaches. Defending champion Northern Iowa was the unanimous selection to repeat in 2011, garnering 100 points and all 10 first-place votes.
Wichita State was voted second (87 points), Creighton was third (77 points), Missouri State was fourth (75 points), Illinois State was fifth (52 points), Drake was sixth (43 points) and Evansville was seventh (42 points) ahead of SIU while Indiana state was picked ninth (28 points) and Bradley 10th (16 points).
The Salukis return four starters and nine letterwinners from a team that went 14-14 overall in 2010 and finished eighth in the MVC with a 5-13 record in Valley play.
