Volleyball tops Green Bay in five

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois volleyball team overcame a 2-1 deficit to top Green Bay in five sets Saturday afternoon in the Saluki Invitational at SIU Arena.
The win helped the Salukis (5-2) stay undefeated in the Invite, as SIU will face Memphis (7-2) at 7:30 p.m. tonight for the championship. The Phoenix (2-7) face Murray State (0-10) at 5 p.m. today for third place.
Junior outside hitter Laura Thole recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 17 kills and a career-high 22 digs while junior setter Rachael Brown also had a double-double with 44 assists and 13 digs.
Also for the Salukis, Junior middle blocker Alysia Mayes posted 13 kills and four total blocks with a .478 hitting percentage while sophomore outside hitter Jess Whitehead added 13 kills and junior libero Bailey Yeager had 18 digs.
Carmen Leitermann led Green Bay with 15 kills while Leah Poel had 49 assists and Brittany Groth had 20 digs.
Memphis 3, Murray State 0
Memphis opened Saturday play in the Saluki Invitational with a sweep of Murray State.
The Tigers, who haven't yet dropped a set in the tournament, will face SIU tonight at 7:30 for the Invite championship.
Altrese Hawkins and Marija Jovanovic each had 15 kills and a .357 hitting percentage to lead the Tigers attack while Hajnalka Molnar dished up 41 assists and Aleksandra Petronijevic had 13 digs.
Cassy Woolverton and Teresa Krog both had 10 kills to lead Murray State while Lea Havili posted 18 assists and Kayleah Sauer added nine digs.
