Cross Country hosts Saluki Early Bird

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Saluki Early Bird Friday afternoon.
Missouri and Rend Lake College also participated in the unscored meet, which consisted of a 4K tuneup for both the men and women.
Kulayifi Haji was the top finisher for the Southern Illinois men's team, placing fifth overall with a time of 12:37.6. Nick Schrader followed just behind, closing out in sixth place with a time of 12:37.9.
Cole Allison rounded out the top 10 for SIU with a 10th place in a time of 12:57.6. Ryan Hershner won the race as an unattached runner with a time of 12:28.4.
The Southern Illinois women had a strong showing, finishing five runners in the top 10. Kristen Levi led the Saluki women with a fourth-place finish with a time of 15:02.2 while Sadie Darnell finished close behind in sixth with a time of 15:17.2. Rounding out the top ten were Lacey Gibson, Kelley Gallagher and Sarah McIntosh finishing seventh, eighth, and 10th, respectively.
Unattached runner Anne Shadle won the women's race with a time of 14:34.4.
Saluki cross country will open the season September 9 when they travel to Charleston, Ill., to compete in the EIU Walt Crawford Open.
