CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois women's basketball team announced its 2011-12 schedule Thursday, which features 14 home games and nine matchups with in-state opponents.
Southern's non-conference slate is highlighted by five games against in-state opponents (Loyola, Chicago State, Northern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville and DePaul) and five games against teams from the Ohio Valley Conference (Austin Peay, Tennessee State, SIUE, UT Martin and Murray State).
The Salukis' haven't had as many non-conference games against teams from Illinois since the 1983-84 season.
The Salukis open the regular season November 11 at Austin Peay before coming back to Carbondale for its home opener November 17 against Loyola. SIU's biggest non-conference test will likely be it's meeting with DePaul December 23 in Chicago. The Blue Demons made the Sweet 16 last season and ranked No. 9 in the final AP Top 25 poll.
SIU opens Missouri Valley Conference play on the road at Illinois State (December 30) and Indiana State (January 1) before hosting its first home conference games of the year against Bradley (January 5) and defending MVC champion Northern Iowa (January 7).
The State Farm MVC Tournament is set for March 8-11 at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
