CARBONDALE, Ill. -- After an extended winter break, the Southern Illinois track & field teams will return to action Friday and Saturday as they host the Saluki Open at the SIU Recreational Center.
"I am excited for this weekend and to get back to competition," said head coach Connie Price-Smith. " With returning from break it is a good opportunity to see how well everyone stayed in shape."
The meet will begin Friday at 4 p.m. with the weight throw, long jump, and pole vault. The action will continue Saturday morning, beginning at 10 a.m. with the shot put.
SIU is one of thirteen teams competing in the meet, which also includes fellow Missouri Valley Conference foe Missouri State and regional rival Southeast Missouri State.
The Salukis will look to continue their success from the Saluki Fast Start on Dec. 3 where they claimed eleven event titles. Senior thrower Jeneva McCall posted two personal bests with NCAA automatic qualifying marks in the weight throw and shot put. Kenya Culmer won the women's high jump with a personal best indoor mark of 5-08.50, which tied her for third in SIU history.
"It should be a competitive meet and allows me to see where we are at and what we need to work on going forward."
