ST. LOUIS -- Southern Illinois thrower Jeneva McCall has been named State Farm Missouri Valley Conference women's field athlete of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.
This marks the second time in three weeks this season that McCall has taken the conference honors.
One week after breaking the Missouri Valley Conference record in the shot put, Jeneva McCall swept the throws titles at Kentucky's Rod McCravy Invitational Friday and Saturday. McCall once again met the NCAA automatic mark in the weight throw recording a throw of 70-05.25, six feet more than the second place finisher, Jazmin Miller, of Ole Miss. The senior tossed another NCAA automatic throw in the shot put posting a distance of 56-09.50 to take the title.
The nine-time, All-American currently has the longest weight throw distance (77-11.50) in the country this season.
Both the men's and women's team remain nationally ranked in the most recent USTFCCCA computer rankings, which were released Tuesday. The women's team is ranked 16th while the men are ranked 35th in the country.
The Saluki track and field teams return to competition this weekend, Feb. 3-4, when they host the SIU Invitational.
