Men's Tennis concludes fall season at ITA Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team closed out their fall season this weekend at the ITA Regional hosted by the University of Minnesota.
The five-day regional event included 17 teams from across the Midwest competing in singles and doubles competition.
Friday's competition saw the Saluki doubles teams advance. Baddr Cherradi and Jonny Rigby as well as Martijn Admiraal and Brandon Florez recieved bye's to advance to the next round. Both teams defeated their opponents to move onto the third day of competition. Cherradi and Rigby topped players from Creighton 8-4 while Admiraal and Florez won 8-6 over their competition from SIUE.
Day two singles competition was successful for Baddr Cherradi and Brandon Florez. Cherradi defeated Justin Abrams of Bradley 6-1, 6-2 while Florez defeated Patrick Hammers of Western Illinois 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
The third day of competition proved to be the most challenging for Southern as the Salukis struggled against tough competition from Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Wichita State, failing to advance into the final rounds of play.
Rafael Cuadrillero, Jonny Rigby, and Bradon Florez represented Southern Illinois in singles competition while the duo's of Baddr Cherradi/Jonny Rigby and Martijn Admiraal/Brandon Florez competed in doubles action.
The Salukis return to the court in January for the MVC Individual Tournament.
