Brian Dixon named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS -- Southern Illinois cross country athlete Brian Dixon has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

This is the second straight week Dixon has been honored and the third time in his SIU career. Dixon placed sixth individually at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational Saturday in Chicago, helping Southern take second place overall, falling only behind No. 1 Wisconsin. The junior from Springfield, Ill., ran his best 8k time of the season at 24:49.

An accounting major, Dixon carries a 3.955 cumulative GPA.
