Yeager receives MVC Leadership & Service Award

ST. LOUIS--Southern Illinois University volleyball player Bailey Yeager has been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference with the league's MVC Leadership & Service Award.
The award was created by the MVC in an effort to honor the achievements of exceptional student-athletes. Commissioner Doug Elgin has named ten student-athletes as the honorees for the 2012 fall season.
A senior defensive specialist, Yeager was SIU's representative for the award based on her efforts in the classroom and in the community
The Brownsburg, Ind. native holds a 3.92 GPA in speech communication disorders and has been on the Dean's List for eight consecutive semesters. Yeager also earned the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
In her free time, Yeager has been involved in Family Reading Night at local southern Illinois elementary schools in addition to volunteering at the Kicking it for Harrisburg Tornado Victims Kickball tournament. Also, Yeager participated in Natalie's Toy Drive to benefit Cardinal Glennon Hosptical in St. Louis as well as participating in the American Heart Association Car Wash, Saluki Pride Car Wash, and the SIU Athletics Safe Halloween Bash. The senior also serves as a representative on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their MVC Leadership & Service Award honorees.
