McCall named MVC Field Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS -- Southern Illinois thrower Jeneva McCall has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's Field Athlete of the Week the league announced Tuesday.

McCall gave another stellar performance at the Iowa State Classic Saturday. The senior placed second in both the weight throw and shot put behind unattached thrower and former Saluki, Brittany Riley. The nine-time All-American recorded tosses of 56-04.75 in the shot put and 74-07.25 in the weight throw.

McCall holds the top spot in the Missouri Valley Conference in the weight throw and shot put. The Dolton, Ill. native ranks first in the nation in the weight throw and fifth in the shot put.

The honor marks the third time this season McCall has garnered the Field Athlete of the Week title.

The Salukis will have their final tune-up before the MVC Championships when they travel to Charleston, Ill. on Feb. 17 to participate in the EIU Friday Night Special.
