Women's Golf completes round one of NIU Snowbird

TAMPA, Fla. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team opened up its spring break at the NIU Snowbird as they sit in fourth place after round one.
Two Salukis sit in the top ten finishers of the first round including Margaret Gilley who carded a 75 after 18 holes at the Pebble Creek Golf Course. Her 35 on the front nine was the lowest of the tournament.
As a team the Salukis tallied a 316, just six strokes behind leader McNeese State. Florida Gulf Coast (311) and Chicago State (314) sit in second and third place respectively.
Cassie Rushing sits in a tie for sixth with a 77 (40-37) while Shaina Rennegarbe and Ryann Gilley each posted an 82 to tie for 21st.
Alisha Matthews rounds out the Salukis top five as she totaled an 86 (41-45) to complete round one. Ashleigh Rushing, who is competing as an individual, is also tied for 39th with an 86 (46-40).
The Salukis will play the second and final round of competition tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
