CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's golf team is set to host the 18th annual Saluki Invitational on March 25-26 at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill. The Salukis will host 17 teams for the 36-hole tournament. Play will start at 9 a.m. both days with a shotgun start.
SIU is the defending champion in the event and has won the Invitational five times. Saluki golfers have won the individual crown five times, the last of which was Kate Laegeler in 2009.
Southern is coming off a win at the NIU Snowbird, its third win of the year. Senior Margaret Gilley won the individual crown and earned Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, her second win and second Golfer of the Week honor this season. Saluki golfer have garnered five MVC Golfer of the Week honors this season.
Hickory Ridge Golf Course became the home to SIU men's and women's golf in 1993, and the women's team began hosting the Saluki Invitational two years later. The course plays as long as 6,863 yards. Admission is free.
