Cassie Rushing named MVC Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Sophomore Cassie Rushing has been named one of this week's MVC Golfers of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Rushing, a sophomore from Marion, Ill., took home her first medalist title of her career as she helped SIU win their own Saluki Invitational Monday at Hickory Ridge Golf Course. Rushing won the tournament by two strokes over Iowa's Chelsea Harris with a 146 (72-74) overall. Her 72 on day one tied the best first round of the tournament and overall score is the fifth-best in tournament history.
Her overall score ties her lowest career two-round score from last season, when she shot a 146 at the NIU Snowbird and took home second place. The finish by Rushing marks the fifth medalist honor by a Saluki this season and fourth tournament title for the team in 2011-12.
This is Rushing's second weekly honor in her career, as she also won after her performance at the NIU Snowbird in 2011.
She shares the weekly honor with Wichita State's Gretchen Huhnerkoch, who tied for second in the Sixth Annual UARL Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs, Ark. March 26-27.
