ST. LOUIS - SIU left fielder Jordan Sivertsen was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
The senior captain hit .563 with four home runs and 12 RBIs in four games this week for SIU to raise his season average from .269 to .306. He hit a two-run home run followed by a three-run home run in his next at-bat in Tuesday's game at Murray State. His career-high six RBI in the game catapulted SIU to a come-from-behind 13-10 victory.
Sivertsen continued his hot hitting this weekend by recording a career-high four hits with two doubles and a home run in Friday's series opener against Evansville as he fell a triple short of the cycle.
Six of Sivertsen's nine hits this week went for extra bases. He had 23 total bases in four games to give him a 1.438 slugging percentage and an absurd 2.070 OPS for the week. In addition to his offense, he played flawless defense in left field, recording 13 putouts without an error.
Sivertsen is the second Saluki to be named MVC Player of the Week in 2012. Austin Montgomery won the honor on Feb. 20.
