Erickson earns MVC first-team Scholar-Athlete recognition

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois golfer Jake Erickson earned first-team Academic All-Conference honors, the Missouri Valley Conference announced Monday. Erickson also earned first-team honors last season and holds a 3.6 GPA in finance. Erickson in just the fourth Saluki to twice land on the MVC Scholar-Athlete first team, joining Todd Obergoenner, Blake Driskell and Grant Goltz.
Erickson is a two-time All-Conference golfer. His stroke average in 2011-12 (74.13) was the seventh-lowest single-season average in school history. He placed first in two tournaments, becoming just the second golfer in school history to win two tournaments in a year. He posted four rounds in the 60s this year, including a 67, which is the seventh-best single-round score in school history. He led the team in six tournaments on the year.
In order to be eligible, nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds or played at the State Farm MVC Championship.
