Track and Field set for NCAA West Regional

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois track and field team will send 15 athletes to compete in the NCAA West Regional Thursday through Saturday in Austin, Texas.
The event, which is set to take place at the University of Texas's Mike A. Myers Stadium, represents the preliminary round of the NCAA Finals. The top 12 competitors in each event will advance to the NCAA Finals June 6-9 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Salukis competing include:
Women
Jeneva McCall — hammer throw, shot put, discus
Kim Fortney — hammer throw, shot put
Ashley Gaston — shot put, discus
Kenya Culmer — high jump, triple jump
DeAnna Price — hammer throw
Malaikah Love — triple jump
Tess Shubert — 400-meter hurdles
Amiris Warren — 100-meter dash
Men
Zach Dahleen — 1,500-meter run
Neal Anderson — 10k run
Cody Doerflein — pole vault
Doug Palacious — triple jump
Maxim Bakana — triple jump
Bradley Sauer — hammer throw
Collin Otto — hammer throw
Salukis that rank among the top 12 regionally in their respective events include McCall in the discus (1st), hammer (2nd) and shot put (4th), Love in the triple jump (6th), Culmer in the high jump (8th) and Dahleen in the 1,500-meter run (10th). Doerflein ranks just outside the top 12 with the 14th-seed in the pole vault while Palacious ranks 15th in the triple jump.
Culmer, Fortney, Love, McCall, Doerflein and Otto have each competed in at least one previous NCAA Regional. McCall advanced to the NCAA final in the hammer throw and shot put last season while advancing in all three events in 2010. Doerflein also advanced to the NCAA Finals in the pole vault 2010.
