CARBONDALE, Ill.— The Southern Illinois volleyball team has been awarded the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Award for the third consecutive season.
The NCAA announced recipients of the APR Public Recognition Award Thursday, which honors teams earning multiyear Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of all Division I teams in each sport.
Since the NCAA began honoring teams with the APR Public Recognition Award in 2005-06, SIU squads have received the honor 13 times. The Saluki softball team has been honored a department-high five teams, followed by the volleyball team with three awards and the women's golf team with two awards.
Now in its seventh year, the NCAA's academic reform program tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement known as APR. The NCAA will release full APR reports June 20.
