Two former Salukis compete in Olympic Trials Friday

CARBONDALE, Ill.— Former Southern Illinois athletes Jeneva McCall and Jeff Schirmer continued competition Friday at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.

McCall finished 15th in the women's discus with a throw of 172-11 while Schirmer took 16th in the men's 10k run with a time of 28:35.18. Neither's finish was good enough to make Team USA for the 2012 London Games.

McCall represents SIU's final hope to make Team USA's London contingent as she will compete in the women's shot put June 28.
