CARBONDALE, Ill.— Southern Illinois cross country athlete Brian Dixon has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Dixon placed second individually at the Saluki Invitational Saturday in Carbondale, helping SIU take the team title in the event. The junior from Springfield, Ill., ran an 8k time of 25:29.60 to finish first among the nine Salukis in the race's top 12 finishers.

An accounting major, Dixon carries a 3.955 cumulative GPA.
