CARBONDALE, Ill.—Southern Illinois University volleyball player Jessica Whitehead has been named an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region honorable mention.
The senior outside hitter from Murphysboro, Ill. is only the second SIU player to receive recognition from the AVCA since Pat Nicholson in 1986.
Whitehead had a stellar senior campaign recording 516 kills to rank second all-time in SIU history, first in the Missouri Valley Conference and 11th in the nation. Whitehead also averaged 4.16 kills per set, which ranks fifth in program history, second in the MVC and 34th in the country.
The MVC First Team All-Conference selection capped off her career at Southern Illinois leading the Salukis to their first Missouri Valley Conference title match since 2002.
