Salukis to host Saluki Outdoor Open on Saturday

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Saluki track and field will host their final home meet on Saturday with the Saluki Outdoor Open, a final tuneup before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, next week on May 9.
Five schools will be represented at the meet -- Arkansas Baptist, Arkansas State, Bethel (Tenn.), Indiana State and Rend Lake -- in addition to a number of unattached and professional athletes.
Southern is coming off two straight weeks at prestigious meets -- the Kansas Relays (April 18-20) and the Drake Relays (April 25-27). The Salukis scored three titles and four runners-up at the two meets -- including a hammer throw victory by all-time MVC hammer throw leader J.C. Lambert, Southern's first ever men's hammer throw victory at the meet.
Currently, the Salukis have nine representatives in the top-50 nationally, 17 in the top-48 in the west region and 19 ranked in the top-three in the MVC.
Competition is set to begin at 11 a.m. with the discus, shot put, pole vault and high jump.
