NEW ORLEANS -- Six Saluki track and field student-athletes were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team, the association announced last week.
To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and either finished in the top-96 nationally in an individual event indoors or qualified for an NCAA Regional meet outdoors.
Five Saluki women were honored among 705 other Division I student-athletes. Kenya Culmer (3.29, business management), Sadie Darnell (4.0, elementary education), Kim Fortney (3.89, communication disorders and sciences), Sophia Lozano (3.41, computer science) and Tess Shubert (3.38, psychology and criminal justice) each were named to the team.
Junior Matthew Benes was the lone representative for the Saluki men. Benes, an engineering major, finished with a 3.60 GPA and qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional outdoors in the 110 meter hurdles.
