CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Salukis (9-10, 3-4 MVC) fell in three sets to top-ranked Northern Iowa (12-6, 7-0 MVC) on Saturday night.
Once again, junior Taylor Pippen finished the night without any attack errors, hitting four kills on 10 attacks for a .400 hitting efficiency. Freshman Andrea Estrada led SIU with nine kills.
SIU struggled to defend UNI's tough offense, led by Autumn Alitz with 12 kills for a .611 hitting percentage. The Salukis were able to tally 11 kills in the first set, only four behind UNI, but the Panthers took and maintained the lead throughout the set, finishing 25-16.
The second frame was challenging for SIU as the team hit a .025. But The Salukis were able to hold the Panthers to a .156 hitting efficiency, and finished with the closest score of the match, 25-18.
The Salukis played their best set in the third frame, hitting .275 and siding out at 56 percent. Large point runs by the Panthers, however, allowed UNI to take a quick lead and the set and match, finishing 25-17.
SIU returns home to Davies Gym for four straight matches, starting with Wichita State on Friday, Oct. 17.
