Alex Rivera named MVC Defensive Player of the Week

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Senior Alex Rivera, SIU's libero, was named MVC Defensive Player of the Week after a strong performance last weekend.
Rivera, originally from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, has played strong defense all season, whether she's positioning herself to receive a serve or diving to save SIU from an attack.
Last weekend Rivera finished with 44 digs (6.29 per set) in two hard-fought matches against Indiana State and Illinois State. Rivera also added eight assists and an ace to the Salukis' efforts. The senior currently has 365 digs on the season, averaging 4.40 digs per set to rank fifth in the Valley.
