SIU Cross Country places four on MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

CARBONDALE, Ill.- Southern Illinois University placed four runners on the Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Teams, the league announced on Tuesday.
Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to meet performance standards, as they must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing to earn a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
SIU tied for the most honorees on the women's team, placing four runners on the squad. Krista Menghini (exercise science, 3.30), Kelley Gallagher (exercise science, 3.30), Kristen Levi (exercise science, 3.88), and Sadie Darnell (elementary education, 4.00) were all honored. Darnell was also the only athlete on the men's or women's team to hold a perfect 4.00 GPA.
The Salukis return to action Nov. 14, when SIU travels to Peoria, Ill., for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet.
