WACO, Texas - Southern Illinois senior tight end MyCole Pruitt was named a first-team All-America selection by the American Football Coaches Association, the organization announced Monday. Pruitt is the first back-to-back first-team AFCA All-American since Arkee Whitlock in 2005 and 2006.
Of all Division I tight ends in 2014 (FBS and FCS), Pruitt has the most receptions (by 20), receiving yards (by 141) and receiving touchdowns (by four). His 81 receptions broke a 15-year-old school record. His receptions per game (6.8) ranked 12th nationally among all receivers, and his 13 touchdown receptions ranked sixth nationally among all receivers.
Pruitt ends his Saluki career as one of the most decorated football players in school history. Pruitt is a three-time All-American (2012, 13, 14) and a four-time All-Conference selection (2011, 12, 13, 14). He holds the school record for career receptions (211) and ranks among the top-seven in Missouri Valley Football Conference History in career receptions (211), receiving yards (2,608) and receiving touchdowns (25), leading all tight ends in MVFC history in each category.
Pruitt's selection marks the fourth-straight year that the AFCA has named an SIU player to their All-America first team. In head coach Dale Lennon's seven years at SIU, the Salukis have placed a player on the AFCA All-America first team six times.
