CARBONDALE, Ill. - This weekend's Saluki Baseball series against Northern Illinois has been moved to Rent One Park in Marion, Ill. The three-game series, which begins Friday, Feb. 28, will still be played at the same scheduled time with first pitches at 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
The series was scheduled to feature the first games played at new Richard "Itchy" Jones Stadium. However, construction has been delayed due to the unusually cold winter that brought an abnormally high number of sub-freezing temperatures and precipitation.
Construction on the new ballpark is on-going and will be completed in time for the Salukis' next scheduled home game when SIU opens a seven-game homestand on Friday, March 14 with a three-game series against the University of Illinois. The Itchy Jones Stadium grand opening and Dan Callahan Clubhouse ribbon cutting are scheduled for Thursday, March 13 at 3 p.m. at the new ballpark.
