CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's basketball program announced two camps for the summer of 2014. The program will host the Fundamental Day Camp for grade school and middle school girls from June 9-12. The Salukis will host the Saluki Slam Team Camp on June 16 and 17 for high school varsity and junior varsity teams.
The Fundamental Day Camp is designed to give the campers a chance to improve fundamental skills in the following areas: ballhandling, passing, shooting, moving without the ball, and defense. Campers will benefit from learning in a competitive and positive atmosphere. Skills and drills will be taught directly by Saluki coaching staff and players.
The SIU coaching staff's camp goal is to help each camper improve her fundamental skills, basketball knowledge, and overall love for the game. The camp is directed towards developing self-confidence, teamwork, and positive attitudes. Individual attention is given to all aspects of the game. Cost for the Fundamental Day Camp is $75 per camper. Girls grades 1-4 will go from 9-Noon each day, and girls in grades 5-8 will go from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. each afternoon.
The Saluki Slam Team Camp is aimed at varsity and junior varsity teams. Each team is guaranteed at least six games, and all games will be officiated by registered officials. Cost is $400 for each team. Campers can also sign up as an individual for $60 and be assigned a team.
To register for either camp, contact the women's basketball office at (618) 453-5448.
