Preseason All-America Teams: The Sports Network | Beyond Sports Network
Philadelphia, Pa. - Southern Illinois seniors Thomas Kinney (place kicker) and MyCole Pruitt (tight end) were named to The Sports Network's FCS Preseason All-America First Team, the organization announced Tuesday. Pruitt was also named to the Beyond Sports Network preseason All-America team on Tuesday.
Pruitt was on The Sports Network's Preseason All-America Second Team before the 2013 season before becoming a consensus first-team All-American after the year. He led the MVFC and ranked in the top-three nationally in receptions and receiving yards by a tight end despite missing two games with an injury. He was named the top tight end in the FCS by the College Football Performance Awards in 2013.
Kinney was a second-team All-Conference selection and MVFC All-Newcomer team selection in 2013 after making 18 field goals, the second-highest single-season total in school history. His 52-yerd field goal against Western Illinois last year tied for the second-longest in the FCS in 2013. After his performance against WIU, Kinney earned conference and national special teams player of the week honors.
SIU placed multiple student-athletes on The Sports Network's Preseason All-America team for the first time since 2011, when Bryan Boemer, Mike McElroy and David Pickard were all named preseason All-Americans.
SIU opens the season on Aug. 31 against Taylor University at Saluki Stadium. Season ticket information and pricing can be found HERE, and tickets can be bought by calling 877-SALUKIS.
