Castel named MVC Male Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois men's cross country runner Michael Castel was named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the Valley announced Tuesday.
Castel opened the the 2014 season at the Saluki Early Bird last Friday with a strong showing, winning the 4K race with a time of 12:03.39. The senior from Moline, Ill., helped the Salukis defeat Indiana State, 20-35. The win was his first in nearly two years after redshirting this past season at Western Illinois. Castel bested runners from ISU, Frontier Community, and Rend Lake.
The Salukis are back in action on Sept. 20, as they host the Saluki Invitational. The meet is set for a 10 a.m. start.
