Isom, Jones, Vea named to MVFC All-Newcomer team

ST. LOUIS - Three Southern Illinois football players were named to the 2015 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer team, the league announced Tuesday. Freshmen Daquan Isom, Jimmy Jones and Jefferson Vea all earned a spot on the 24-man team.
Daquan Isom was one of the most electrifying players in the nation as a true freshman. He had nine plays of 40+ yards in his nine games played and ranked eighth nationally in all-purpose yards per game. He was a two-time MVFC Newcomer of the Week and ranked in the top-10 in the conference in rush yards per game, receptions per game and all-purpose yards per game.
Jimmy Jones ranked eighth in the league in receptions per game and played his best against MVFC competition. In MVFC play, he ranked fourth in the conference in receptions per game (4.8), sixth in receiving yards per game (62.0), fifth in scoring (6.0 per game), and second in receiving touchdowns (5). He led all freshmen in the conference in all of those categories during MVFC play.
Jefferson Vea started all 11 games at cornerback for the Salukis and ended the year fourth on the team in solo tackles with 37. He had 48 tackles overall and broke up eight passes, and he added 2.0 tackles for loss.
