ST. LOUIS, Mo. - For the third time this season, SIU track and field sophomore Kyle Landon was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the Valley announced Wednesday.
It's been nearly one year in the making, but sophomore Kyle Landon finally beat his career best in the high jump after clearing 2.21m (7-03.00) for a victory at the Indiana Relays this past weekend. For Landon, this is his third high jump win in four meets this indoor season, and his 12th in 21 career meets as a Saluki. Now at 2.21m, Landon ranks tied for fifth in the nation, sitting within three inches of the national leader, Jacorian Duffield of Texas Tech (2.28m/7-05.75).
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Landon is set to compete at home this weekend in the SIU Invitational beginning on Friday.
