CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki women's golf team is set to host the 21st annual Saluki Invitational this weekend at Hickory Ridge Golf Course. The Salukis have claimed the Invitational title each of the last three tournaments.
This year, SIU will welcome golfers from 10 different schools: Cardinal Stritch, Central Michigan, Eastern Illinois, University of Iowa, IPFW, John A. Logan, University of Nebraska-Omaha, Rend Lake Community College, Southern Illinois, SIU-Edwardsville and Tennessee State.
The Salukis will have A and B teams competing, while University of Iowa will have three individuals competing rather than a whole team.
The 36-hole tournament begins on Sunday at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. A round of 18 holes will be played each day, with Monday's action beginning at 9 a.m. Hickory Ridge Golf Course is a par 72 course that plays 6,018 yards.
In her four years at the helm, head coach Alexis Mihelich has gone undefeated at home, topping 33 opponents overall. In 2012 the Salukis topped 16 teams to take the title. After the Invitational was rained out in 2013, SIU defeated 12 teams in the spring of 2014 followed by a win at the inaugural Saluki Shootout in the fall over five teams.
