Southern Illinois finishes up a five-game roadtrip with a pair of midweek games against SEMO and Austin Peay.
TUESDAY'S STARTER
Austin McPheron gets the start for the Salukis against SEMO. The Sophomore RHP enters the game with a 0-2 record this season with an ERA of 15.68. In 10.1 innings of work, McPheron has three strikeouts. McPheron has faced SEMO twice in his career, going 1-1 with an ERA of 4.22.
WEDNESDAY'S STARTER
RHP Connor McFadden gets his second start of the season, this time against Austin Peay. In his first start of the season against Arkansas State, McFadden pitched three innings, giving up four runs on three hits with three strikeouts. McFadden enters Wednesday's game with an ERA of 5.40 and nine strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
The Salukis enter the midweek clashes with a record of 7-28. The Salukis are coming off of a 2-1 series win over Indiana State. The series win against ISU was the first MVC series win for the Salukis since 2013. Southern is hitting .250 as a team this season. Freshman Greg Lambert leads the team in most offensive categories including batting average (.315), hits (41), home runs (2), and RBI (18). The Saluki pitching staff enters with an ERA of 6.13. SIU's staff has combined to strikeout 235 batters this season.
SEMO SERIES NOTES
Southern leads the all-time series against SEMO 50-28-1 since 1923. Under head coach Ken Henderson, the Salukis are 6-10 against the Sycamores. Last season, SIU and SEMO split a pair of matchups.
AUSTIN PEAY SERIES NOTES
Southern leads the all-time series against Austin Peay 24-10 since 1972. Under head coach Ken Henderson, the Salukis are 6-1 against the Sycamores. The Salukis defeated Austin Peay, 14-3, earlier this season.
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
SEMO comes into Tuesday's game with a record of 21-14. In their last outing, the Redhawks took two of three games against Eastern Illinois. The Redhawks are hitting just under .300, with an average of .299 this season. Six Redhawks are hitting above .300 so far this season. The SEMO pitching staff has an ERA of 4.14.
