Landon and Price named MVC Field Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS -- Salukis DeAnna Price and Kyle Landon have been named the Missouri Valley Conference Field Athletes of the Week, the Valley announced Tuesday.
MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Kyle Landon | Sophomore | Chester, Ill.
Sophomore Kyle Landon won his second career Tennessee Relays high jump title in as many opportunities on Saturday. Landon cleared an outdoor season-best 2.20m (7-02.50) for the win, tying his outdoor career-best set last summer at the NCAA Outdoor Championships that earned him a tie for third place and First-Team All-American honors. With the win, Landon catapults himself into a tie for sixth overall in the NCAA this outdoor season and into a tie for fifth overall in the NCAA West Region.
MVC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
DeAnna Price | Junior | Moscow Mills, Mo.
In what was dubbed one of the week's top events nationwide this past weekend, Saluki junior DeAnna Price finished as the top collegian in the women's hammer throw at the Tennessee Relays on Thursday. Price squared off against professional and former Saluki Gwen Berry and the NCAA's No. 1 hammer thrower this season, Brooke Pleger of Bowling Green, who leap-frogged Price for the national lead just one week earlier. Price finished behind Berry but ahead of Pleger at a career-best 67.25m (220-08), a two-foot, eight-inch PR that improves upon her place in fourth all-time at SIU and as the No. 2 thrower in the NCAA this season behind Pleger and No. 1 in the NCAA West Region. Pleger (fourth) and Price (fifth) trail only Amber Campbell (first), Gwen Berry (second) and fellow former Saluki Jeneva McCall (Stevens) (third) on the 2015 U.S. hammer list.

Southern will trek out to California this upcoming weekend, where the Salukis will compete in three separate meets: the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., and the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif.
