CARBONDALE, Ill. - After 14 seasons as the head track and field coach at Southern Illinois, Connie Price-Smith is moving to the same position at Ole Miss. Price-Smith, an SIU alumna, was hired as the women's head coach in 2002 and has been the head coach of the combined men's and women's track and field program since 2004-05.
"We want to thank Coach Connie for everything she has done for our program, community and university throughout her coaching and competitive career," Director of Athletics Tommy Bell said. "She has always represented SIU in a first-class manner on the national and international stage. Ole Miss provided an opportunity and an offer that she couldn't refuse, so we wish her well as she takes the next step in her coaching career."
Price-Smith won six conference titles at SIU and was a six-time MVC Coach of the Year. She coached 51 All-Americans and eight national champions. Her women's team finished ninth in the nation at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2010 and 12th this past season. Last week, she was named the head coach of the track and field Team USA women for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Bell said a national search to replace Price-Smith will begin immediately.
