Peyton Wilhoit earns second MVC Golfer of the Week award

For the second time this fall, Southern Illinois men's golfer Peyton Wilhoit was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

A sophomore, Wilhoit (68-76-78 = 222) finished tied for 13th place out of 67 golfers at the Kennesaw State Intercollegiate. He was the team's top finisher at the 7,108-yard, par 72 Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga. Wilhoit matched his career best with a 68 in the first round. As a team, SIU finished eighth out of 11 teams.

Wilhoit also won the league award on Oct. 5 after placing eighth out of 60 golfers at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. In that tournament, he competed against golfers from five teams teams ranked in the Golfstat/Sagarin Collegiate rankings top 75, including Kansas (19), Texas A&M (25), Lipscomb (45), James Madison (51) and Iowa (78).
