2015-16 Saluki Softball posts fourth-best team GPA in all of Division I softball

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 2015-16 Southern Illinois softball program posted a 3.627 team GPA, the fourth-best team GPA in all of Division I softball, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Thursday. Southern Illinois has finished fourth in each of the last two seasons and has finished with a top-10 team GPA nationally in 12 of the last 16 seasons.
Nine of the 15 players on the 2015-16 team earned Easton / NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors by posting a GPA above 3.5 for the 2015-16 school year. Caylee Cook, Nicole Doyle, Savannah Fisher, Kelsey Gonzalez, Shaye Harre, Sydney Jones, Merri Anne Patterson, Hanna Stam and Jessa Thomas all earned Scholar-Athlete honors.Â
SIU's fourth-place team finish is tied for third-best in school history. SIU finished second nationally in both 2006-07 and 2010-11. Under head coach Kerri Blaylock, the Salukis have finished in the top 10 percent nationally in team GPA every year while winning three MVC titles, going to five NCAA Tournaments and winning 595 games.
