The Southern Illinois men's golf team is tied for seventh place with Louisiana after Day One at the LSU Intercollegiate on Saturday. There are 14 teams in the tournament, and host LSU leads the pack by a comfortable 22-stroke margin heading into Sunday's final round.
The Salukis shot 301 in the first round and 310 in round two for an overall score of 35-over par. They are lumped in a group of eight teams that are all within four strokes of each other, so a stroke here or there tomorrow could be the difference between fifth or 12th place.
SIU was led on the day by senior Brandon Carlson (72-77 = 149), who sits at 5-over par and is tied for 17th place out of 77 competitors. His even par first round at the University Club golf course was the team's best score of the day. Carson Seals (73-79 = 152) is 8-over par for the Salukis and tied for 27th place.
