Cross Country's Maier Makes MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

Southern Illinois University cross country runner Josh Maier (pronounced Mayor) was one of 22 runners named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, the league announced Tuesday.
In order to qualify for the award, a runner must be at least a sophomore, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and must finish within the top-20 of the conference meet.
Maier, a native of Alsip, Ill., finished 13th in the men's 8K race and was the only member of the men's scholar-athlete team to have a perfect 4.0 GPA. Maier was one of only three qualifying athletes with a perfect grade point average.
The sophomore, one of six sophomores on the academic team, is majoring in mechanical engineering.
