ST. LOUIS – After earning her first career Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week award earlier this week, Southern Illinois University's Kylie Giebelhausen was announced as the league's female Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
The junior guard, who holds a 3.74 cumulative grade point average in exercise science, was selected after averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game while leading SIU to a pair of non-conference wins.
The East Peoria, Ill. native poured in a career-high 22 points in SIU's 70-63 home-opening win over Murray State. Giebelhausen made 8-of-15 shots, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc in 37 minutes of play. She followed with 15 points, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks in SIU's 64-61 win over Purdue, helping SIU to its first win over a Power 5 conference school since 1993.
Giebelhausen currently ranks fourth in the Valley in scoring (16.3/game), and second in three-pointers made per game (2.7) and blocks (1.7).
The Salukis return to the hardwood on Nov. 23 when they travel to Edwardsville, Ill. to take on the SIUe Cougars. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
