Andrea Estrada led the Salukis with 10 kills and 14 digs, while Nellie Fredriksson hit .500 and put down 10 kills on 18 swings. Hannah Kaminsky dished out 20 assists to go along with eight digs and Kolby Meeks chipped in seven kills and a solo block.
The loss brought an end to the career of SIU's six seniors; Kaminsky, Mariana Pilon, Shannon Hagen, McKenzie Dorris, Yael Benjamin and Meg Viggars.
"Jaelyn Keene was great and I also thought Aly Dawson had a great game for herself and we haven't seen that out of Dawson consistently all year," fifth-year head coach Justin Ingram said. "She was very consistent tonight. Their offense was either incredibly good tonight or our defense was not or a combination of both. But I'll tell you what, Jaelyn Keene and Dawson played terrific and we couldn't match their power offensively and you know that's a quick 3-0. So 0.362 attack efficiency as a team average, that's incredible."
Both Keene and Dawson finished with 14 kills for the Redbirds, as Keene hit at a .500 clip and Dawson wasn't far behind, as she hit .481 for the match.
The Salukis opened the contest on a 4-0 run, and took a seven-point lead (13-6) on a kill by Nellie Fredriksson. The Redbirds responded with a 9-1 run to take their first lead of the frame, 15-14. Perinar's second kill of the set tied the score, 16-16, but a pair of Saluki errors gave ISU a lead it never surrendered.
The Redbirds didn't trail in set two, as the Salukis hit .111. Southern got to within four, 19-15 on a kill by Ginger Perinar, but that was as close as they could get.
SIU again got out to an early lead in set three opening up an 8-4 lead on Estrada's ninth kill of the match Back-to-back kills by Fredriksson grew Southern's lead to six, 10-4. Estrada's 10th kill put the Salukis up, 14-10, but an 8-0 run by the Redbirds quelled any chance of a Saluki comeback.
The Salukis conclude their season with an overall record of 21-12. After going 23-10 a year ago, Southern Illinois has now won 20-plus matches in four of the last five seasons.
